Down The Track_About Us

Down The Track is an innovative and lifesaving program for young people based in the remote communities of Lake Cargelligo and Murrin Bridge in Central West, NSW.

We work with disengaged and marginalised young people between the ages of 10 and 20.

We promote engagement, improved self-esteem and reduce young people crime by providing training, education, employment pathways and community connection.

Without the support of Down The Track, our young people are on a downward spiral of continual disengagement from their communities and positive life opportunities.

Our programs address:

High unemployment & low self-esteem levels of young people resulting in crime/anti-social behaviour
Unacceptable crime and incarceration levels amongst young people in the region
Concerning levels drug and alcohol abuse amongst young people
Substantial levels of domestic and family violence
Poor mental health and high rates of suicide
Increasing positive pathways to education, employment and community participation (volunteering, social inclusion)

OUR IMPACT

Our Impact -Down the Track
Along with all of the organisations in the Tracker Network, we use the Impact Measurement Framework developed by Backtrack. This Framework identifies the areas of personal development that are most significant and relevant for vulnerable young people, and that the Tracker organisations is uniquely equipped to deliver. It keeps us tracking towards our goals, with our eyes firmly set on the future. The framework measures six key areas:
Reduced offending
Physical and mental wellbeing & resilience
Stable home environment
Connection to peers, culture & community
Learning work & life skills
Chasing hopes & dreams (including training and employment)
By achieving these six areas of impact, we are helping young people to experience belonging, mastery, independence and generosity, and keeping them alive, out of jail and thriving. The Framework keeps our mission and methodology at the forefront of everyday operations, while also informing the holistic, flexible and long-term support we provide to each individual young person.

As the Tracker Network’s footprint continues to grow, the Impact Measurement Framework helps us build a compelling evidence base and communicate our individual and collective impact to government, philanthropic and corporate partners, and other communities across Australia.
 
 

Our Achievements:

Over 30 accredited courses delivered every year, which address skill gaps in our community and interest from our young people

Over 1,600 Breakfasts cooked and served each year at Down The Track, ensuring each young person has the chance to start their day with a full belly

14 young people complete a two week shearing school each year, resulting in an average of 4-6 young people gaining employment

Significant decrease in local young people crime since 2016
